The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Learning Center will present a webinar focusing on audits and appeals. The digital education course, titled “The Inside Scoop on Audits and Appeals,” will be May 20, 2014, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm ET. With Medicare and other private payors increasing efforts to prevent improper payments through prepayment audits, postpayment audits, and other initiatives, the webinar will strive to help participants understand audit processes and implement risk-reduction strategies to aid in audit response.

J. Todd Mason PT, DPT, MSA, and Donna K. Thiel, an attorney who concentrates her practice on regulatory issues affecting healthcare providers, will share their audit experiences and provide suggestions for responding to audits and reducing risk. Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to identify underlying problems that can lead to denials and examine their practice to identify possible problems that may lead to an audit.

In addition, following webinar completion, participants will implement strategies to minimize the risk of a formal audit, describe practical strategies for dealing with an audit, and develop a self-audit process for a practice. The 0.2 CEUs will be awarded upon successful completion of the online seminar, which includes completion of a multiple choice test. A certificate of completion will be given to each participant who successfully completes the course.
