Eastern Iowa Community Colleges has announced its new Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program at its Clinton Community College (CCC) campus in Clinton, Iowa. A news report from QCOnline.com notes that CCC has remodeled its former chemistry lab into a state of the art physical therapist lab in order to accommodate the new program. The new PTA lab was opened up in the main building of the science facilities of CCC, which was opened in 2010.

The college is currently developing an “Application for Candidacy” to be presented to the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The QCOnline.com news release notes that students can begin taking prerequisite courses now as students are required to have all foundational prerequisite coursework completed prior to the start of the technical phase of the program.

The application process for admission into the PTA program will begin in the spring semester of 2015. A limited number of students will be admitted to the program each year, and the college anticipates being able to accept up to 24 students each fall semester.

The college will be hosting information sessions in May to introduce interested students to the program. The dates are as follows: May 12 at Muscatine Community College; May 13 at Scott Community College; and May 14 at  Clinton Community College.
