New data released by the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NHCS) provides state-by-state profiles of who gets more physically fit during their spare time, and where they live.

According to the data, nearly one in four adults in the United States (22.9%) meet the guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercise during their leisure-time physical activities.

Across the United States, 14 states and the District of Columbia have significantly higher percentages of adults who meet exercise guidelines, while 13 states have percentages that are significantly below the national average.
