Five-time Olympic Gold Medal-winning speed skater and now orthopaedic surgeon Eric Heiden, MD, announces the opening of The Heiden Institute of Sport Science and Human Performance, located in Park City, Utah.

Led by Heiden and cardiothoracic surgeon Russ Reiss, MD, the Heiden Institute comprises a team of professionals with several years of combined experience working with professional and amateur athletes, to offer human performance services previously only available to professional and Olympic-level athletes.

Via the Heiden Institute, the duo are pioneering an innovative model combining the latest in sports science and human performance with state of the art sports medical care, including orthopedic surgery, sports cardiology and regenerative medicine, according to a media release.

“The Heiden Institute is something I’ve thought of for years. I am an orthopaedic surgeon, I take care of athletes, and have been an athlete myself. I’ve understood the components for a successful athletic career are quite diverse and have always dreamed about bringing those components together, under one roof, in a comprehensive way,” states Heiden, in the release.

Among the offerings are cycling camps, including The Ultimate Challenge, a women’s only camp, and a fall mountain bike camp.
