Wearable Technology for Functional Improvement Receives FDA Approval

AlignMed, headquartered in Santa Ana, Calif, has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Posture Shirt and S3 Spine, Shoulder, System as a medical device to support, correct, and prevent deformities or to align body structures, according to a company news release. The form-fitting garments are designed to be comfortable and feature NeuroBands, a technology that uses built-in or customizable touch and tension panels to activate muscles and sensory nerves. The simultaneous action of muscle support and biofeedback cues are engineered to improve forward head and shoulder posture. The garments incorporate special construction and materials to deliver nonrestrictive comfort.

Stephen Hochshuler, MD, of the Texas Spine Institute, says, “The Alignmed Posture Shirt is a wonderful tool for people to take an active role in their own spine health,” according to the AlignMed news release.
