Physical therapist Lisa Shimberg has seen her appointment numbers fall to just 25% of what they were previous to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, she came up with a creative solution: care for her patients outside.
Shimberg set up a physical therapy bed on the front porch of her house as a way to help her patients who are taking extra precautions during this time.
As longtime patient Mary Jane Ruhl explains in this feature in The Arlington Connection, having an outside appointment reminds her of getting a massage on the beach in Bali.
I’ve done the same thing here in WA state – set up a treatment table on my front porch for physical therapy patients. I have one with lung issues who can’t wear a mask and he’s thrilled with this solution. I wear my mask on the porch and follow rest of protocols. My portable laser unit works perfectly, too.
That’s great to hear, Bonnie! Please follow up with me and let me know how your service is doing.
