A May 14 webinar, hosted by HydroWorx, aims to shed light on potential misconceptions surrounding aquatic therapy and exercise modalities.

Lance Walker, PT, CSCS, global director of performance for the Texas-based Michael Johnson Performance facility, will be presenting the Addressing Potential Misconceptions about Training with Aquatics webinar.

According to a news release issued by HydroWorx, Walker’s presentation will include discussion about the traction aquatic therapy and exercise has gained, and highlight what Walker says is the weakening of this traction in some circumstances by beliefs regarding the power of using water to encourage healing and improve performance

The release notes the discussion will explore the ideas that an aquatic environment is limited to rehabilitation; the concept that water-based workouts cannot match the intensity levels of land-based workouts; and that it is not possible to engage in a natural running or striding gait while in a pool.

Attendance for the webinar is free, however online registration is required, the release says.

Athletic trainers can obtain one CEU through BOC for attending the live webinar in its entirety. Other participants attending the entire live webinar, the release states, may petition their certification agencies to inquire about CEUs.

Walker, the release adds, has combined his sports medicine and rehab sciences background for more than two decades, specializing in rehab, preventative training, and spine stabilization. As global director of performance for Michael Johnson Performance, he is able to consistently work with professional and emerging athletes. Throughout his years in the industry, the release reports, Walker has worked with athletes from nearly every professional sports organization in the United States, including the NBA, NFL, MLB, PGA.
