Orbital Pilates Balance Gym

The Orbital Pilates Balance Gym is an extremely stable platform that is designed to be used as a Dual Balance Board and Pilates resistance conditioning station. It operates on a patented system that rotates on a pivot point and not on a ball. This allows for a nonslip, nonimpact, gentle, orbital rotation in all three planes. An advantage of this system over traditional balance bars and wobble boards is that the right-foot platform operates independently from the left-foot platform. It includes Pilates resistance tubes, adjustable handles, a resistance bar, leg strap, and roll-up bar. This balance board becomes a total-body workout gym. Benefits include: balance training, sensory stimulation, proprioception training, faster rehab times, increased blood flow, decreased edema swelling, increased ROM, decreased scar tissue, and core strengthening. The Orbital Pilates Balance Gym has a multitude of applications, including balance training, upper- and lower-body conditioning, weight- and nonweight-bearing stretches, core strengthening, isometric exercise, foot and ankle conditioning, hand strengthening, and shoulder-stability strengthening.

Sling Seat Sensor Switch and Alarm

AliMed® Inc introduces its new Sling Seat Switch and alarm system, which is useful for those who monitor wheelchair patients prone to wandering. The sensor system eliminates the need for chair-sensor pads, which may be susceptible to failure, false alarms, and tampering, and may need frequent upkeep. Designed exclusively for use with sling-seat wheelchairs, the device is mounted out of sight beneath the seat where it is virtually tamper-proof. It helps eliminate false alarms often associated with pads because it does not malfunction from folding or exposure to wetness, and will not shift out of position. When patients sit down, the sling is depressed and the sensor is deactivated. When patients begin to rise, the sensor is activated by a mechanical spring, sounding the alarm. The device is mounted with an elastic strap that stretches when the patient is seated, reducing tension on the seat and helping to reduce the risk of sores by not placing excessive pressure on patients. It does not interfere with the therapeutic, pressure-distributing effects of wheelchair cushions, and it is compatible with all QualCare™ sensor-pad alarms, so existing chair systems can be converted to use.

Compression Legwear

Juzo compression stockings and panty hose provide compression values ranging from compression Class 1 to 4. Compression stockings provide support to the legs and veins, assist with circulation, and minimize swelling. The compression is graduated, with the strongest support starting at the ankles and gradually decreasing toward the top of the garment. This gradual support works in conjunction with the pumping action of the calf muscles, which also assist with circulation. The new Juzo Slippie Gator donning and doffing device helps users put on and take off hosiery or socks, and can be used for open- and closed-toe garments. All Juzo garments are made from Lycra and are latex-free.

Suspended Platform

The ShuttleBalance suspended platform by Contemporary Design Co produces an unstable surface, invoking the use of stabilizers throughout the body. Exercises can be varied and progressed according to training and/or therapeutic goals. For example, programs aimed at fall prevention for the elderly would use wide placement of the suspension ropes under the platform and up to the frame. The platform would be a few inches off the ground, and fore and aft movement would be restricted by the safety tethers. Users would progress from a bilateral to a unilateral stance, eyes open then closed, with hands holding the frame to no support at all.
