Practice-Management Software

A2C Medical offers Clinic Controller, an integrated practice-management solution for outpatient therapy clinics. The software encompasses patient scheduling, billing and collections, documentation, and reporting. It was developed on the Microsoft.NET technology platform. The network-able architecture lets practice owners connect from home or on the road, and permits a multiclinic practice to have single point-of-data collection with billing and collection personnel consolidated to a single point. Real-time information is contained in the Therapist Productivity report, Comprehensive Account Receivables report, and Detailed Referral and Billing Cycle report.

Ramps

Nonskid mesh steel ramps from American Ramp Systems grip tires, and the perforated pattern allows moisture to pass through, which helps prevent puddles and ice from forming. Handles help limit potential accidents, and the black finish promotes defrosting. The ramps are considered durable medical equipment—in the same category as beds and wheelchairs—and purchase and installation costs may be covered by insurance. The company offers a free home evaluation to discuss custom design and special needs. The units are portable and can be dismantled and transported. No contractors or construction permits are needed, and most installations take less than a day.

The supine position facilitated by OPTP’s PT Board provides controlled movement training for treatment of low back, lumbopelvic dysfunction, and core training. The equipment can be used for nonweight-bearing rehabilitation of the ankle, foot, and shoulder. It helps promote functional rehabilitation by applying active range of motion, strengthening, muscle reeducation, relaxation, and proprioception/kinesthetic awareness. The swivel base allows 360° of movement for pelvic side-to-side or front-to-back movement. The board is latex-free.

Toxin-Free Mattresses

Federal flameproof mattress regulation requires known acutely toxic and cancer-causing chemicals in our beds. However, physicians can prescribe toxin-free mattresses and avoid the regulation. This health issue is making news across the country because many sleepers and mattress factory workers are already getting sick. Mattress chemicals now include antimony (arsenic), roach killer, silica glass, and more. Strobel led the fight against the regulation before it passed, and now offers a full line of prescription mattresses, including the Lever-Bed 450 (shown) with Sit-Up Pillows. Exercise Software

EXERCISE PRO Version 4.0, the premier exercise software system, from BioEx Systems, remains the top choice for rehabilitation professionals. It is easy to see why. The program creates custom computer-generated exercise handouts in seconds—in today’s health care setting, this is crucial. Many home exercise solutions require 10-20 minutes to produce, which is unproductive and steals valuable one-on-one time away from the patient that could be used to ensure proper exercise technique. As always, the content can’t be beat, offering functional orthopedics, neurology, ball, manual therapy, Yoga, Pilates, closed chain, pediatrics, geriatrics, wheelchair, amputee, aquatics, fitness equipment, vestibular/balance, cardiac, hand and finger, resistive band, plyometrics, assisted, passive stabilization, stretching, and more—more than 2,700 total. It’s a complete package, with no annual fees. It’s still only $499. Call for a free demo.

Slanted Riser

The new Slanted Riser introduced by SPRI Products Inc is an angled step riser engineered to fit the underside of the company’s original Step platform. The equipment can be added to or removed from the underside of the Step in the same manner as a standard riser. Users challenge their bodies from a different angle than a standard step or bench. The riser provides variety for most levels of exercisers and transforms a flat-step bench into an incline/decline bench for strength-training activities for the whole body.

Home Therapy Treatment

The Econo 90 is 90/90 traction designed as safe, effective, and inexpensive home treatment for lower back pain. The device uses the top of a closed door and a keeper bar to securely anchor the positioning strap. The patient’s feet rest on the door to form 90º angles at the hips and knees, and a single-pull pelvic belt and rope pulley system with a locking mechanism are used to apply the lift. As the patient pulls down on the rope handle, his or her hips are cradled and rotated to flex the lumbar curve. This in turn increases the posterior separation between the vertebrae and reduces pressure on nerves and disks. The rope locks in place, and the patient relaxes in traction as prescribed by the physical therapist. A thigh strap provides comfort and prevents external rotation of the hips. A head and shoulder wedge can be added to increase flexion and stabilize the cervical and thoracic spine.

Polyethylene Splint

The Freedom Swedish AFO injection-molded polyethylene splint, offered by AliMed Inc, provides static dorsiflexion assistance and lateral stability for the entire foot-ankle area. Injection molding facilitates thicker polyethylene on the vertical aspect for rigidity and a thinner footplate that may be trimmed with scissors. A heat gun can be used to further form the splint, if desired. The low arch and open heel provide a streamlined profile that fits into most shoes. A padded hook-and-loop strap secures the AFO around the calf. The product is available in left or right, men’s, and women’s styles. The men’s line fits up to size 12, and the women’s line fits up to size 9.

Antigravity Treadmill

The G-Trainer antigravity treadmill from Alter-G Inc helps exercisers reduce their effective body weight so they can continue training during injury recovery, outdistance conditioning limitations, and build endurance. It facilitates a range of natural movement, normal body positioning, and unaffected foot plant, which helps maintain a normal gait, stride length, bounding, and leg kick. The unit’s supportive force occurs at the user’s core and is uniformly distributed. Variables can be adjusted and programmed to meet training, conditioning, and therapeutic needs. Effective body weight can be reduced to 20% of the user’s body weight, with reduction increments of 1%. Speed variables can be adjusted up to 18 mph in forward motion, 10 mph in reverse—and incline can be set up to 15%. The variables can be adjusted on the fly, so users can meet their performance levels and tailor workouts to accommodate pain or fatigue.
