Pain Management

When rehabilitating a body, it is imperative to maintain a level of care that keeps the patient comfortable. Patients are unable to progress in their therapy if they are continually in pain. Showcased here are a few pain-management products that therapists rely on to help their patients.

Digital Nerve Locator
The pocket-size Digital Nerve Locator by Life-Tech Inc optimizes the ease and convenience of performing peripheral nerve blocks. The device features a large, bright, easily readable LCD screen that continuously displays all instrument settings and status parameters. Additionally, the pause mode allows changing stimulus parameters without stimulating, while an audible “chirp” indicator of pulse delivery and amplitude frees the operator from having to watch the display. The volume of the “chirp” is adjustable for any environment. The device also offers an adjustable pulse width that allows selective stimulation of motor or sensory fibers. Both audible and visual warnings indicate any discrepancy between the actual current and the selected current.

Topical Pain-Relieving Gels with Aloe
Flexall® topical pain-relieving gels help increase patient compliance and enhance ultrasound, cryotherapy, TENS, and massage therapies. In a recent study, a 25:75 Flexall and ultrasound gel mixture provided results equal to 100% ultrasound gel with an added analgesic sensation of warmth. Flexall (7% menthol) and Maximum Strength Flexall (16% menthol) are unique aloe vera gel formulas that provide fast, long-lasting relief from arthritis, backache, bursitis, tendinitis, muscle strains and sprains, bruises, and cramps. Flexall gels absorb quickly and completely; and they are greaseless, nonstaining, and gentle on the skin.

Pain-Relief Gel
Sore No More™ is pain-relief gel that offers a blend of herbs and plant extracts, with the scent of orange peel and witch hazel, and the deep-heating strength of menthol. Capsaicin helps minimize pain for patients. Sore No More has been formulated to alleviate arthritis pain; aching muscles; tight, sore joints; and minor aches and pains. Additionally, customers now recommend dabbing a small amount on a patient’s temples for migraine and crystal headache relief.

Decompression System
The Dynatron DX1 Decompression System treats back pain by combining the benefits of traction and light therapy into one simple-to-administer treatment. With three channels of light therapy (one probe, two pads), the patient can be pretreated with unattended light therapy that relaxes muscle spasms, increases circulation, and relieves minor muscle aches prior to the traction phase of the treatment. The targeted traction phase features a digital goniometer (patent pending) that automatically calculates and digitally displays the angle of pull, allowing decompression of the spine to occur at the targeted vertebral level. Additionally, the DX1 has an interactive touch screen display, an onboard protocol, and patient-education tutorials. The complete DX1 package includes the DX2™ traction/light therapy unit, an XP light pad, a light probe, a decompression table, decompression belts, Saunders cervical traction, knee bolsters, a cervical pillow, and an ankle bolster.
