Ankle Brace
Swede-O Inc offers a new generation of strap-style ankle braces with the Swede-O X8 ankle brace. The Swede-O X8 ankle brace has simplified competitors’ four straps down to two—with a dual-purpose strap that can be applied quickly and easily. UniCam Inc has introduced its therapeutic weight system (TWS). The product is designed specifically for the rehabilitation, strengthening, and training of the upper and core body structures and their associated muscle groups. Unlike standard dumbbells, the UniCam therapeutic weight system is single-end loaded, making it suitable for unique applications. The TWS is constructed using strong, lightweight aircraft aluminum and industrial-grade PVC. Safety is built in using such features as click pins that lock into place and weight collars that tighten under the load. Sacroiliac Belt
The new Serola Sacroiliac Belt has a significant change in comfort and grip: The first layer is changed from cotton to open-cell urethane foam. The urethane layer has several advantages over the original cotton layer. The open-cell urethane is breathable, more comfortable, moisture wicking, and hypoallergenic, so it can be worn directly against the skin. It also conforms to body curves well and is tacky in nature, so it is less likely to move. Urethane foam is elastic by nature, so the material to which it is laminated must also not be elastic because of the manufacturing process. By sewing a nonelastic 2-inch-wide loop on top of the urethane-composite layer, there is a nonelastic function in the Serola Sacroiliac Belt.

Suspended Platform
The ShuttleBalance suspended platform by Contemporary Design Co produces an unstable surface, invoking the use of stabilizers throughout the body. Exercises can be varied and progressed according to training and/or therapeutic goals. For example, programs aimed at falls prevention for the elderly would use wide placement of the suspension ropes under the platform and up to the frame. The platform would be a few inches off the ground, and fore and aft movement would be restricted by the safety tethers. They would progress from a bilateral to a unilateral stance, eyes open then closed, with hands holding the frame to no support at all.

Ankle-Rehabilitation System
The AnkleTough rehab system effectively strengthens the surrounding ankle muscles and tendons. It may be used in unsupervised home use, it conveniently fits in pockets or purses, and it can be used in most casual settings. The system consists of tension straps and strengthening exercises. The tension straps are constructed from heavy-duty elastic, and they are cut and stitched to form two conjoined loops that easily fit over a shoe or bare foot. The straps come in four different degrees of tension: labeled light, medium, strong, and tough. This gives PTs the flexibility to start rehab patients with the degree of tension most appropriate to various situations. The straps are available as a set of four progressive-resistance strengths, or as an eight-pack of the same strength, available in each of the four resistive tensions. They are packaged in a self-fastening pouch made from durable plastic.

Practice-Management Software
Clinicient offers Insight™, a new clinical-management system that features tools for patient registration, scheduling, clinical documentation, and billing. Once data is entered, it is accessible to everyone given permission to see it. Instead of manually dictating and transcribing notes, documentation is created at the point of care and linked to patients’ records and the clinic schedule. Face sheets, backup documentation, and copay logs are entered as they are collected, and they are stored in a central database where the billing staff can readily access it and rapidly bill electronically. Insight reports data in the form of "dashboards" that constantly monitor the key performance indicators that drive patient satisfaction and business results.
The system allows clinic managers to assign and track tasks, as well as provides alerts at the first sign of potential problems. Clinicient’s "software on demand" infrastructure enables everyone to securely access the information they need, when they need it, using any personal computer connected to the Internet. This decreases their need to maintain servers in the clinic and worry about security, availability, and data backup.
For more information, contact Clinicient, 506 SW Sixth Ave, Suite 1111, Portland, OR 97204; (503) 525-0275 ext 1; www.clinicient.com.

Spinal Stretching Belt
Disc-Traction™ is an easy-to-use device that helps those suffering from chronic or acute back pain. The belt can be worn and used anywhere, and it is available in sizes to fit a variety of users. Disc-Traction comes with a set of isometric exercises to use with the belt. These exercises facilitate tractioning, muscle relaxation, and blood circulation in the lower back. The device and its exercise program may help reduce the risk of injury from lifting, stooping, and sitting. Users push down on the handles and the lower back is stretched upward, relieving pressure on the vertebrae and decompressing the disks and joint structures along the spine. Available waist sizes are small (24 to 32 inches), medium (32 to 38 inches), large (38 to 42 inches), and extra large (42 to 50 inches).
