MedRisk ’s Expert Physical Medicine
Provider Organization for workers’ compensation has expanded into 10
additional states.
Under the Expert Provider Organization (EPO) arrangement, physical
therapists, occupational therapists and chiropractors agree to a unique
reimbursement structure based on diagnosis and the chronicity and severity
of work-related injuries. This system controls cost through the clinical
management of utilization and ensures quality practice standards.
Typically, MedRisk’s EPO delivers savings of between 30% and 40% below
fee schedule and UCR (Usual, Customary and Reasonable charges) on physical
medicine claims. With the addition of Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho,
Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, and New Hampshire,
MedRisk’s EPO is now available to employers that self-insure workers’
compensation programs, municipalities, insurance carriers, third-party
administrators in a total of 36 states. These states represent more than 80
percent of all workers’ compensation premiums.
“This significant expansion of our EPO strengthens our customers’ savings
potential in the critical area of workers’ compensation medical care. More
than 20 percent of all comp claims involve physical medicine, making
physical medicine the largest medical cost driver,” says Shelley Boyce,
president of MedRisk.
