The recently launched mobile app BetterPT is designed to connect patients to physical therapists on demand, with the touch of a button.

Via the app—now available in New York City, and expanding to the tri-state area by spring 2017—patients simply set their location, time, and day they wish to receive treatment; choose their clinic and physical therapist; note their injuries; and book their appointment, according to BetterPT.

The HIPAA-compliant app was developed by Stephen Fealy, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery, along with health and fitness expert Greg Peters, and is available free to download at the Apple Store and on Google Play.

“After 15 years of experience in health and fitness, plus in-depth knowledge of the PT eco-system, we have identified a need, addressed the frustrations and struggles of the patient, and are now providing a solution to the logistics of making PT a better experience,” Peters explains in a media release. “Like Uber changed the taxi business, we intend to change how the physical therapy industry operates.”

“This is an incremental improvement to the traditional patient/therapist experience—one in which the patient will be able to book a therapy visit through an app and the physical therapist can simultaneously provide the best care for their patients,” Fealy adds.

The app’s launch was fueled by $1.5 million in seed funding led by Loeb Holdings Corp.

“With Dr Fealy’s background and prestige in the medical field and Greg Peters firsthand experience and knowledge in the world of health & fitness, we are proud to support this complementing duo and help fuel the launch of betterPT,” states Thomas L. Kempner, Chairman of Loeb Holding Corp, in the release.
