MemorialCare Neuroscience Institute at Long Beach Memorial has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Comprehensive Stroke Centers.

This certification and recognition marks MemorialCare as the third Joint Commission Certified Stroke Center in Los Angeles County.

To be eligible for such certification, hospitals must demonstrate compliance with stroke-related standards as a Primary Stroke Center and meet additional requirements, including those related to advanced imaging capabilities, 24/7 availability of specialized treatments and providing staff with the unique education and competencies to care for complex stroke patients, explains a media release from MemorialCare Neuroscience Institute.

MemorialCare Neuroscience underwent an on-site review in November 2016, during which representatives from The Joint Commission evaluated its compliance with stroke-related standards and requirements.

“By achieving this advanced certification, MemorialCare Neuroscience Institute at Long Beach Memorial has thoroughly demonstrated the greatest level of commitment to the care of its patients with a complex stroke condition,” says Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and CEO, The Joint Commission, in the release.

“The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association congratulates MemorialCare Neuroscience Institute at Long Beach Memorial on achieving Comprehensive Stroke Center certification,” states Nancy Brown, chief executive officer, the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. “Meeting the standards for Comprehensive Stroke Center certification represents a commitment to deliver high quality care to all patients affected by stroke.”

“MemorialCare Neuroscience Institute at Long Beach Memorial is pleased to receive advanced certification from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association,” shares Angela West, MSN, RN, CCRN-K, SCRN, ANVP, Stroke Program Director, MemorialCare Neuroscience Institute, Long Beach Memorial. “The certification provides us with the framework to create a culture of excellence,” the release continues.
