An upcoming webinar from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Learning Center titled “Create a Culture of Mobility in Acute Care” will focus on opportunities and strategies for mobility initiatives in the hospital setting. According to an online course description, the mobility initiatives cross a number of strategic initiatives of the association, and a Culture of Mobility was highlighted in the Innovation Summit as well as in the APTA conference programming in 2013.

As physical therapists play an integral role in this initiative, this online seminar will examine opportunities, strategies, and tactics to position, implement, and evaluate interdisciplinary mobility initiatives in the hospital setting. Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to review the evidence supporting mobility in the acute care setting and identify the value that mobility opportunities offer to enhance outcomes and reduce costs along the health care continuum.

Additional course objectives for participants include: examining specific strategies to leverage organization health care reform initiatives to drive interdisciplinary mobility; discuss strategies to initiate, conduct, and evaluate an interdisciplinary mobility model; and demonstrate how hospitals can successfully integrate many types of data to inform their decision making.

The webinar will be May 15, 2014, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm ET, and is open to members and non-members of APTA. Mary Stilphen, PT, DPT, and Michael Friedman, PT, MBA, will be the presenters for the webinar. For additional course information and registration details, visit http://learningcenter.apta.org.
