An upcoming webinar presented by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Learning Center will discuss the Medicare manual provisions as well as provide regulatory insight about how to properly treat patients under the Medicare skilled maintenance benefit, while minimizing the risk of denials from Medicare administrative contractors (MACs). The online seminar, “Defining Skilled Maintenance Therapy and Minimizing Denials,” will be April 24 from 2 PM to 3:30 PM, ET.

The APTA Learning Center course description indicates that upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to identify Medicare’s “reasonable and necessary” criteria regarding the need for skilled therapy services as well as discuss current maintenance therapy coverage requirements for therapy under Medicare parts A and B. Also, webinar participants will be able to implement documentation tips to show the need for skilled maintenance therapy.

Anita Bemis-Dougherty, PT, DPT, MAS, and Roshunda Drummond-Dye, JD, are the presenters for this educational event. Participants who successfully complete the examination will be awarded 0.2 CEUs and will receive a certification of completion.
