A recent study published in the journal Stroke found that women who walk several hours each week may lessen their chance of having a stroke. Researchers in the study gathered data from 33,000 male and female participants. Each participant was asked about his or her exercise habits from 1992 to 1996, and the subjects were followed until 2006 to assess the number of cardiovascular complications that developed.
The study determined that women who walked at least 3 hours per week were less likely to suffer from a stroke when compared to those who did not exercise or walk. Overall, the researchers found that the women who walked at least 210 minutes per week were less likely to have a stroke in comparison to non-exercising women and men. Other studies have shown the benefits of exercise for both men and women in the prevention of cardiovascular problems, such as a stroke, so it may be beneficial to incorporate exercise into your daily regimen.
